This chart shows how fats, vitamins and minerals support critical functions in our pets’ bodies. Food diversity helps ensure all their nutritional needs are provided for.
Adult minimum levels shared in the last right column are calculated on dry matter basis. This means nutrient levels when its moisture content is 0%.
Nutrient level recommendations seem to have been made complicated and inaccessible to the general public. We’ve done the calculations to show what might be inadequate in recipes we share.
Good sources of essential fats:
- linoleic acid (omega-6)~ safflower oil, sunflower oil, wheat germ oil
- linolenic acid (omega-3) ~ flaxseed oil, chia seeds, canola oil
- EPA & DHA ~ mackerel, salmon, cod liver oil
